Golvellius: Valley of Doom is the Sega Master System's answer to Nintendo's Legend of Zelda. It's a great action adventure released on the Japanese MSX home computers (1987) and converted to the Sega's 8bit console in 1988.

GolvelliusSTORY / GAMEPLAY
You control Kelesis, a green-haired hero who starts a task to rescue the story's kidnapped princess from the evil Golvellius. Along your quest you'll recover a series of crystals. You begin your journey possessing only a sword and fight hordes of monsters like venomous snakes and giant bats. Note that at the end of many dungeons, Kelesis fights a boss monster that will finally give some gold. This gold can be used in a shop to upgrade your weapon and restore your stamina. One awesome addition to Golvellius is the save system. You can save anywhere at any time with a simple tap of a button! The gameplay is rather simple and typical for a 2D action scrolling action adventure. The perspective changes from side-scrolling to vertical scrolling between levels! It even offers you levels with flip screen action too! What is a bit awkward though, is that your character cannot turn left the left to shoot enemies. Honestly this detail looks like a programming glitch so it makes it quite hard to take down enemies coming from behind you and you need to jump backwards! Minor flaws aside, Golvellius is a fun game and probably one of the best releases for the 8 bit Sega Master System!

GRAPHICS / SOUND
The Master System version features enhanced graphics (compared to the original MSX version) and totally different worlds with dungeon layouts and the like. Each level is beautifully detailed, offering up to 32 colors on screen! The sprites move fast and like charm making this game one of the most technically advanced games for the Master System. Combined to the awesome graphics is the cool sound, offering a variety of tunes along with some pleasant sound FX. There is also an awesome intro theme for you to enjoy!
